A shopkeeper assembles baby walkers - remember these used to be popular in the 1960s and 70s. Every house with a baby just beginning to walk would have one. I think they were called `Nadai Vandi.' Later plastic took over. But there still is a market for the wooden ones and the shopkeeper says these help a baby walk better. I believe him. Took this pic in Parry's.

Stamp of Chennai - 7: The St Andrew's Kirk, Chennai. 

Stamp of Chennai - 7: This stamp released by India Post in 1997 was to commemorate the 175th anniversary of the St Andrew's Church in Chennai. It was built for the members of the Scottish Church and is known popularly as the St Andrew's Kirk.

Kili Josiam - A parrot, actually a parakeet, tells your fortune. Once a customer agrees on the fee, Rs 10 or so, the bird is let out of the cage and, as it struts out, its master instructs it to pick out a card from the stack in front of it. Each folded card has a paragraph or two of what the future holds for the customer. Here after selecting a card, the bird confirms that it is its final choice by vigorously nodding its head -- that also explains why its head is a blur. The bird's owner reads out the material folded inside the card. Unfortunately, Kili Josiam is on the wane. They used to be quite common and could be seen regularly on Chennai streets. Now you find them mostly on the beach and in a few luxury hotels. If Kili Josiam is getting uncommon the next one is even rarer...

That's LIFE

A post - for no particular reason (I suppose that would be an appropriate excuse for all other posts on the blog too.) Just thought it would be interesting and something different, an issue of Life - a magazine that has showcased the works of many legendary photographers. Here is one published in 1968 with the Beatles, strikingly dressed, on the cover.
I can imagine our own superstar, Rajini, freaking out in any one of those suits. :)
